Masters of Frame Drums: Glen Velez, Zohar Fresco, Andrea Piccioni und Murat Coskun

Das gesamte Programm lebt „solistisch wie in Ensemble-Konstellationen von den charakterlichen Facetten der Ausführenden, von ihren verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten, die sich auf Fell, Schellen und Holz übertragen.“

Glen Velez (USA) gilt nicht nur wegen seiner 4 Grammy-Preise als „Lord of the Frame Drums“. Er hat weltweit Tausende von Perkussionisten durch sein Spiel inspiriert und die Rahmentrommelbewegung  wie kein anderer revolutioniert. Sein physisches, meditativ kraftvolles Spiel auf der Rahmentrommel begleitet er mit zentral asiatischem Obertongesang und lautmalerischer Silbensprache.

Zohar Fresco (Israel) ist ein Ausnahme-Perkussionist. Mit seinem individuellen, höchst kreativen und facettenreichen Spiel gilt der israelische Rahmentrommler mit türkischen Wurzeln als „Virtuoso of Frame Drums“. Er ist „ein Feinmechaniker, der Präzision mit Seele vereint. Er herrscht nicht nur über seine Frame Drum, seine filigranen Finger sprechen vielmehr mit ihr (…) und in seiner Stimme schwingt tiefe Sanftmut.“

Andrea Piccioni (Italien), Dritter im Bunde, ist der „Maestro of Tamburello Total“. Kaum einer beherrscht die unterschiedlichsten Traditionen des italienischen Tamburin-Spiels so wie er und haucht den uralten Instrumenten eine moderne Seele ein. Dabei wird „seine kleine Schellentrommel mittels Verstärkung mitunter zum bauchigen Monster (…), sein Sound ist faszinierend ledrig, und er ist imstande fast schon schalkhaft groovende Melodien aus dem Fell zu zaubern, die zwischen Tarantella-Verweisen und und Latino-Einflüssen schillern.“

Murat Coşkun (Deutschland/Türkei), der „Dervish of Frame Drums“ ist ein musikalischer Botschafter, der mit seinen Projekten weltweit die unterschiedlichsten Kulturen vereint. Sein Spiel gleicht einer großen Liebeserklärung an die Rahmentrommel. Dabei schöpft er aus seiner eigenen Tradition, der türkisch-orientalischen Musik. Heraus kommt eine Musik, die Begriffe wie „Tradition“ oder „Moderne“ hinter sich lässt, über Definitionen wie „Okzident“ und „Orient“ schmunzelt und ihnen ein trommelndes Augenzwinkern entgegnet.

The four elements of nature have ancient origins and are already reflected in the pantheistic, pagan and pre-Christian religions. The ancients saw in nature the exact harmony of the four elements, Earth, Water, Air and Fire and were amazed by the many manifestations of these in everyday life. They were a suitable environment for life that allowed the development of that rich and varied world in which we live. A pantheistic vision was the natural consequence of the terribled aily experiences. The original pagan concept of the "Four Elements" penetrated almost all ancient cultures, from Greek to Roman, Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese and Japanese, which chose to refer to nature always through the same four elements. The four natural elements are understood as states of aggregation of matter: fire, burning state; air, gaseous state; water, liquid state; earth, solid state. They have the characteristic of being in agreement or in opposition to each other. Philistion, an ancient Greek physician, suggested that each element be attributed a quality: fire is attributed to heat, air to cold, water to wetness and earth to dryness, so that the water is opposite to fire but similar to earth and wet opposite to dryness but similar to coldness. The interaction of these elements, composed of particles mixedin varying proportions, gives rise to all the phenomena of the cosmos: birth, death, transformation.The forces that allow the interaction of the elements are two: love, attractive force, and discord(hate), repulsive force. According to Empedocles, the four natural elements, that is the four roots (rhizai) that form all things, are governed by the tension between love and discord, which dominate at alternate times. When love dominates, all the elements are fused together in a homogeneous and conflict-freesphere, the Sphere. Originally, in the Sphere, a separation of the elements begins by the action ofdiscord, which leads to the destruction of matter, to Chaos. At this point, the cycle of the two cosmic forces, love and discord, continues thanks to a new intervention of love, which bringsback balance and life to matter, and then comes to impose itself on discord and return to the initial condition of Sphere. From here the cycle begins again.
